How we found each other

How We Met

According to Facebook, we had known of each other for more than seven years before we ever spoke. We had crossed paths countless times in the dance community, but David never quite worked up the courage to say hello.

Then, seven years later, something changed. He sent a message after seeing photos from Daria’s first trip to Peru, and what began as a simple comment about her adventure turned into hours of talking, laughing, and flirting. From the very beginning there was an undeniable connection. As they say, the rest is history.

The First Date

For most people a first date lasts a couple of hours. David apparently missed that memo. The evening began with dinner at Daria’s favorite enoteca, followed by a house party, good conversation, plenty of laughter, and a few glasses of wine.

What was meant to be a casual first date turned into hours of getting to know each other, with neither of us wanting the night to end. By the time it was over, it was clear there would be a second.

The Proposal

Picture this. You are hiking up the legendary Huayna Picchu, climbing the steep Inca staircases nicknamed the Stairs of Death, on your way to the Temple of the Moon near Machu Picchu. It is early morning. The trails are quiet. No crowds, no distractions, just the two of us surrounded by breathtaking mountains and ancient history.

After winding through the steep paths, we found a small trail leading to the Temple of the Moon. We paused to take it all in. And then it happened. He got down on one knee.

Wait, is this real, or just a rehearsal?

It sounds like something out of a movie, but that is exactly how it happened. Daria was completely surprised, and before saying yes she had one very important question. Fortunately for David, it was real. And thankfully, the answer was yes.
